Setting Yourself Up for Success in High School

Course Load

Have you aligned your course load with what colleges are expecting?  This varies by college but if four years of a language and a minimum of calculus are needed and you plan to stop at Spanish 3 and precalculus you have an expectations mismatch.

Rigor of Course Load

Do you need to take seven AP courses your junior year?  Likely not but fyi, some students will take that many.  For many students increasing rigor over their four years may be adequate.  Factoring in rigor to GPA and/or class ranking is important.

Leadership

A great trait that is a bonus to any college application.  Colleges love to see demonstrated leadership.

Activities

Do you have enough commitment to activities to show you are well rounded?  Sports, clubs, and volunteering all help - but how much of each can be critical.
